Thank you for choosing Lincoln Endodontics for your root canal treatment.

To ensure proper healing and protect your tooth, please follow the guidelines below.

Post-Procedure Guidelines

  • You need to contact your dental office to schedule the final filling or crown. We prefer this be completed within the first three weeks after root canal treatment but can be completed as soon as possible.
  • Please do not chew on the treated tooth (if not crowned) until the final crown has been completed. You risk the tooth breaking which could jeopardize saving the tooth.
  • The tooth/area is typically sore for up to 1 week. Typical symptoms include -- sore tooth and gums, a dull ache, soreness opening/closing your mouth. If you experience more severe pain 3-5 days after or develop swelling please contact the office or emergency phone number provided.
  • You can brush the treated area as normal. Don't be surprised if a portion of the temporary material is lost/worn out. This is normal and not a problem.

Over the counter pain medication

  • It is best practice to take pain medication on a continual basis for the first three days then switch to an as needed basis.
  • Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) 600mg every 6 hours OR
  • Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 650mg every 6 hours.
  • For more moderate pain you can take both ibuprofen and acetaminophen together.
